SCULPTURE COMPETITION ANNOUNCEMENT

On the occasion of Albania‘s 100th Anniversary of Independence the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports and the National Gallery of Arts will commission a monument dedicated to the Congress of Lushnja, which will be placed in the city of Lushnja. Therefore the Albanian Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports and the National Gallery of Arts,

ANNOUNCE:

Call for international sculpture competition – a monument dedicated to the Congress of Lushnja, which will be placed in the Albanian city of Lushnja.

General conditions of participation:

1. The competition is international – open to Albanian and foreign artists.
2. The monument should display high artistic endeavour and professionalism in the making.
3. The monument shall be composed of three important parts: the monument, the pedestal, and an inscription, which gives important information about this event. Other additional elements proposed by the artist will be considered but they must play a functional role in the overall monument.
4. In this competition can participate artists, groups of artists and sculpture and/ or architecture studios.
5. The entry sketch model may be made in various materials such as, plaster, bronze, concrete, wood, marble, glass, plastic and so on as well as other mixed techniques.
6. The sketch models of the statues shall be presented in full, complete with all required elements.
7. Any participating artist, group of artists, or studio can take part and compete presenting 1 (one), or 2 (two) sketch models. At maximum the artist, the group of artists, or studio, can present 2 (two) sketch models.
8. The entry sketch model shall be no more than 100 cm high, nor more than 100 cm wide and can be worked out of various materials.
9. The artist, or the group of artists, should bring in alongside the sketch model a photo of the model, a full CV and a personal photo. Also a copy of art studies university diploma is needed. Such documentation is valuable for the work and discussions of the jury. It is also important for archival purposes.
10. The institution holding and organizing the competition is the National Gallery of Arts.
11. The entry sketch model shall be delivered or handed over to the National Gallery of Arts, in Tirana until 21 May 2012.
12. The delivery, handing over and registration of the entry sketch model shall be made at the reception of the National Gallery. Contact number for the National Gallery is +355 4 222 60 33.
13. The deadline for handing over the sketch models shall not be violated by the artists. After the deadline no sketch models will be accepted to enter the competition.
14. The jury of the competition, approved by the Albanian Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports, shall make the selection of the winning entry, from 22 May to 23 May 2012. The best models chosen by the jury will then be presented to the State Commission of Festivities for a final approval; it will be they to publicly announce the winner.
15. The artist/group of artists/studio of the winning model receive a pre–tax artistic reward of 2,000,000 ALL.
16. Following the selection of the winner the jury will closely follow once a month the casting/making of the statue in the required dimensions, leading up to its unveiling. In every meeting with the artist/group there shall be suggestions by the jury that shall be deemed compulsory for the artist/group of artists. The notes of these meetings then shall be handed over to the Ministry of Culture (MTKRS).
17. All non–winning sketch models shall be withdrawn from the National Gallery from 25 May 2012. Failure by the participants to withdraw them on time renders the National Gallery non–responsible towards them.
18. If the competing sketch models are not withdrawn on time after the deadline has expired the National Gallery shall destroy them.
19. Upon the completion of the competition and following the announcement of the winning model, an agreement shall be entered into between the artist, group of artists, or studio and the Albanian Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports, with regards to payment, conditions, and time of delivering the monument.
20. The artist/group of artists/studio shall not violate any of the terms and conditions neither of the competition, nor of the agreement with the Albanian Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports.
21. The agreement between the artist/group of artists/sculpture/architecture studio and the Albanian Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports will also specify the place where the monument will be placed, and other matters of a professional nature.
